SEATTLE -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik has announced the following medical update on left-handed pitcher Erik Bedard:
It has been determined that Bedard will seek a third opinion on the shoulder, and his treatment options. He will fly to New York and be examined by Dr. David Altchek next week.
Bedard, 31, had surgery on his left shoulder on Aug. 14, 2009 to repair a torn labrum. He has spent the 2010 season rehabilitating following the surgery. Dr. Lewis Yocum performed the surgery in Los Angeles, CA.
Bedard has continued to experience discomfort in the shoulder. An MRI exam this week revealed continued inflammation in the shoulder. The MRI was reviewed by Dr. Yocum and Mariners Medical Director, Dr. Edward Khalfayan.
