Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Seahawks may not have Marshawn Lynch at minicamp next week, according to their sources. The article notes that Lynch has not been an active participant this off-season in Seattle.
After being the life of the party at the Super Bowl parade, Beastmode skipped out of the White House celebration. He's been absent at the voluntary organized team activities, also called OTA's.
He rarely talks to the media anymore. Lynch even cancelled a promo event, last Friday, for a product he was endorsing.
According to the Yahoo Sports article, Lynch could be unhappy with his contract, too. Overthecap.com lists his base salary for 2014 at $5 million, with a half million dollar roster bonus. Which looks like a bargain for a guy who's averaging just over 1350 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns per season over the last three years in Seattle. Plus, he's seen his teammates, Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas, get some monster paydays from the Hawks this off-season.
You also add the fact that offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell says they plan to go to a "running backs by committee" this season. He said it last week at town hall meeting with season ticket holders. But then Bevell recanted at Monday's OTA's.
So if he's skipping minicamp, it may not be a big deal. It could be Marshawn just being Marshawn. It will be bigger news if misses training camp or holds out for a bigger contract.
By the way, if he misses all three days of minicamp, under the CBA rules, the Seahawks can fine him $69,455.
