Washington State University made the unusual move Thursday of canceling all afternoon classes due to a rare weeknight primetime football game.

The Cougars will host the No. 25 Arizona State Sun Devils at Martin Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. and it will air nationwide on ESPN.

WSU says all Pac-12 conference teams are required to host at least one weeknight game every three years.

The university said it was canceling all Pullman classes that begin at noon or later Thursday in order to ensure safety and ease of travel throughout the campus before the game. Morning class attendance was being left to the discretion of individual faculty members.

Classes will go on as scheduled Friday.
