JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli authorities have some confessions in the vigilante-style killing of a Palestinian teenager. An official says three Israeli suspects have confessed to the crime and have been re-enacting it for authorities.
The teen was abducted and burned to death last week -- in what the Palestinians say was a revenge attack for the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teens in the West Bank.
Israeli officials say Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has spoken by phone with the father of the Palestinian teen. A statement quotes Netanyahu as expressing outrage over the murder.
Word of the confessions came as tensions continue to rise along Israel's border with the Gaza Strip. Israeli airstrikes, responding to persistent rocket fire, killed at least eight Palestinian militants. Hamas is vowing revenge.
Meanwhile, there's widespread anguish in Israel over the killing of the Palestinian youth. One commentator wrote in an Israeli newspaper (Yediot Ahronot) that there's "immense shame" over a crime that Israelis thought "could not happen among us, that only Arabs can be so cruel."
