SPOKANE -- Thursday Spokane firefighters found themselves in a familiar place fighting a small grassfire.

A small fire started in Minnehaha Park, but was quickly put out, not causing any damage. Firefighters say it's a notorious spot for brush fires every year, and it's not difficult to understand why.

Firefighters say the area is close to town and accessible, making it popular for hiking, hanging out and even illegal campfires.

"We can't keep people, kids from coming up here and kids don't know about the burn ban, and if they do, they don't pay attention to it," says Bob Green with the Spokane Fire Department.

Firefighters scope out the area before every fire season to re-familiarize themselves with the terrain because they know they'll visit the area more than a few times.
