NEAR ODESSA, Wash. -- Firefighters have contained a brush fire just north of Odessa. The fire grew to at least 3,000 acres before crews got a handle on it.
36 firefighters from the Odessa Fire Department, five water tankers, and two air tankers worked to put out the flames. The fire flared up around 1:30 p.m. Thursday between Highway 21 and Duck Lake Road. Flames crossed the highway closing it for a few hours.
The fire burned mostly sage brush and wheat. One structure was threatened but crews managed to save it.
Fire crews say they hope the wind does not kick up any flames tonight.
