NEAR COULEE CITY, Wash. -- Firefighters fully contained the 600 acre Highway 17 fire Sunday.
Crews left the scene around 5:00 Sunday evening.
The fire started at 4:04 p.m. Friday. Early during the fight, six homes were threatened. However, crews now have that portion of the fire under control and those homes are now safe.
Fire managers said the fire is burning mostly sagebrush and grass. They have it about 50% contained. Several Bonneville Power Administration transmission poles have been damaged. There is no power outages reported, and no one has been injured.
Highway 2 and Highway 17 are now open.
State fire mobilization was approved for this fire and resources from across the state traveling to help fight it.
