Firefighters stop brush fire near Indiana and Evergreen

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.-- Firefighters put out a brush fire near Indiana and Evergreen. Crews were called to the scene around 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

The fire started along the Centennial Trail just east of Mirabeau Park. Flames started in the grass and began moving toward the trees according to dispatchers. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading.

Authorities said the fire burned about an acre.

The Centennial Trail is closed off but will be reopened soon. Westbound Indiana will be down to one lane until 5:15 p.m. Monday.

The Department of Natural Resources is in the scene. Investigators are looking  into how the fire started.
