Arden wildfire 900 acres, 2 homes lost; shelter at Colville HS

ARDEN, Wash. -- A wildfire near Arden in Stevens County has burned 900 acres and continues to grow.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources reports 2 homes have been lost to the fire.

About 30-40 homes remain in the fire's path.  Behind those homes is another 100 to 130 houses. Both mandatory and voluntary evacuations are in place.

A mandatory evacuation notice is for people living along Westover Road. 

Voluntary evacuations are for people living on Slide Creek Road, Moran Creek Road, and Philleo Road.

The Red Cross has a shelter for evacuees at Colville High School. Evacuees are advised to bring personal items such as clothing and bedding.

Firefighters are attacking the fire with water from the air, however fire retardant has been ordered.  They are battling sustained winds of 30 m.p.h.

The fire started Thursday afternoon in high winds. The cause of the fire is unknown.  Firefighters say the fire could last for days.
