NEAR CHENEY, Wash. -- A wildfire just south of Cheney is now 100 percent contained.

The Luke Road Fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Saturday near the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge.

Spokane deputies blocked off Cheney Plaza Road near Turnbull while firefighters worked to control the gnarly wildfire, which covered almost 100 acres.

Wind fueled the flames, which jumped Cheney Plaza and moved northeast.

Two homes on the south end of the fire were asked to evacuate, but evacuations were not mandatory.

About 20 crews from Spokane County Districts 8 and 3 fought the fire with assistance from Spokane firefighters.

No word on how the fire started.
