United Airlines is increasing the fee for a second bag on international flights from $70 to $100.
The Chicago Tribune reports that the move comes despite falling jet fuel prices, although United said in a statement “This change reflects an increase in costs associated with carrying bags, such as fuel and handling.”
Delta Air Lines also recently increased its second international bag fee to $100.
One airline analyst said this could signal future fees for first checked bags on trans-Atlantic flights, something most airlines don’t currently charge for.
