SPOKANE – Spokane recently landed near the top of a “Happiest Cities” study that looked at what its residents say on Twitter.
Many Spokane Twitter users credit that status to an event they call the Spokane Coffee Tweet-up, or on Twitter, the #SpoCT. Organizer Mike Ellis said its an in-person meet-up where people who connected first online meet in person to chat.
We thought we might go to this and see a bunch of people standing around in a bakery staring at their phones, but that was not the case. Instead, this event is all about the people behind the Twitter handles making real-world connections.
“This is the sign of the power of social media,” Ellis said. “All of these people found out about this gathering on social media. Namely, primarily Twitter.”
The group announces its meetings on Twitter under the hashtag #SpoCT but generally meets for an hour on Friday morning at Boots Bakery in downtown Spokane.
