SPOKANE, Wash.—A woman was still recovering Wednesday after she was attacked and dragged through a parking lot in Spokane Valley last Friday night.
Christa Westhoff was dragged by a car along a rocky, gravel surface after a man tried to steal her purse.
Westhoff said she left the birthday party and a man called her over to his car. Westhoff said the man was not a complete stranger, but she didn’t know him that well.
"We had a lot of mutual friends. So he was in the circle around us," said Westhoff.
Reports said when Westhoff approached the man he grabbed her. He then pushed the gas pedal and started to speed off with Westhoff in tow.
"He full throttled spun around and dirt was everywhere. And I was just hanging," said Westhoff.
Westhoff said he should have just demanded her purse.
"If I knew he was going to do that, I would've taken it off my wrist. Have it!" said Westhoff.
The trauma did not stop there for her. When the vehicle came to a stop it was completely on Westhoff’s leg.
"I was laying there screaming, 'you're on my leg, you're on my leg!' And then he spun out on top my ankle," said Westhoff.
Authorities reported when they arrived on scene Westhoff was in bad shape. She underwent two surgeries and was still in the hospital the following Wednesday.
Westhoff said that even though she is severely hurt, she is grateful it was not worse.
"I could have not survived it, I could not have a foot right now... so all that makes it better," said Westhoff.
Authorities said Chris Wright was the man who dragged Westhoff through the parking lot.
Reports said the 21-year-old is currently facing several serious charges.
