SPOKANE -- Avista crews have restored power to more than half of the outages that occurred overnight.

Spokane Police Department

Monday night's storm toppled this tree in north Spokane.

Approximately 2,100 scattered outages still remain.

Alberta street in Spokane is currently closed from Garland to Northwest Blvd. because of a tree that fell down during the storm. That tree also took power lines with it and crews are still on the scene conducting repair work.

Morning commuters are asked to use Ash as their southbound alternative until crews can finish repair work.

The tree fell at 9:15 p.m. Monday and Avista advises they should have the street re-opened by noon. About 90 customers are affected by the power outage in that area, but all traffic signals are now up and running.

At the peak of the storm there were approximately 5,500 outages.

Most of the outages were caused by wind and lightning.

Here are the larger areas where outages are currently being restored:

* Spokane - 1,500 customers
* Sandpoint - 300

* Othello - 270

Restoration efforts will continue through the day. Avista estimates that most customers will have power back by 3 p.m. today.

Customers are encouraged to call the Avista outage reporting line at (800) 227-9187.

Calling that number will help Avista locate outages and customers can receive estimated restoration times.

People should stay away from downed power lines and call Avista immediately to report downed lines.
