Snake on the loose in Coeur d'Alene

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho --- A snake is on the loose in Coeur d’Alene and CDA animal control does not have a protocol to deal with it.

On Wednesday a neighbor of Laren Jones found a snake.

“He goes, 'Laren, I got this snake! I got this snake!' And I said, ‘There's no snakes in Idaho,’” said Jones.

Jones walked over to his neighbor’s yard and it was wrapped around his neighbor’s lawn mower. The neighbor reportedly found when he was taking a tarp off of the mower for the first time in a while.

Jones said it was around four feet long and the neighbor’s wife disagreed and said it had to be six feet in length. No matter how long it was, it was nowhere to be found when KREM arrived on the scene. An officer from animal control told the neighbors there was not much they could do about the snake, reportedly. The Coeur d’Alene PD’s animal control unit said they had not received any calls about a snake recently, which is interesting because it means the snake was not reported missing by anyone.

Calls like that are pretty rare and animal control is not necessarily prepared to deal with snakes since there is no protocol for this situation said animal control. They need to call in outside help from an independent snake expert to help catch the critter, reports animal control.

The snake was not acting aggressively said Jones. And the snake is still on the loose.
