Woodland Park Zoo has selected names for two of its lion cubs after its "Name the Cub" contest. More than 2,000 Washington residents submitted entries from the Zulu and Sotho languages native to a part of the lions’ South African origin.
The zoo’s management staff, which asked for names , chose the names Rudo (“love” in Zulu, pronounced roo-doh) and Busela (“happy and independent” in Zulu, pronounced boo-sayla) for the male and female cubs, respectively.
The winning names were submitted by Tate and Ross MacDonald of Seattle and Pamela Garland of Olympia.
As contest winners, they will take home a grand prize package, including a private viewing for five at the lion exhibit with a keeper, one-year Woodland Park Zoo family membership and a $100 gift card to Play It Again Sports.
