SPOKANE, Wash. -- The principal of Holmes Elementary was chosen to be honored in Spokane’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The school planned a surprise assembly Friday afternoon for Principal Steve Barnes, where Barnes would learn he is being honored as 2014’s Principal on Parade.

The annual award is given out by Spokane Teacher’s Credit Union.  Every year, STCU asks local students to tell them why their principal should get a place of honor in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  The winning school also receives a $1,000 check.
