WAUCONDA, Wash.— Firefighters spent Tuesday battling a 20 acre wildfire between the towns of Tonasket and Republic. By Wednesday morning, the fire had grown to 150 acres.
The Toroda Mountain fire popped up Tuesday just north of Wauconda. Leaders with the Department of Natural Resources said the fire quickly grew and threatened buildings. The fire doubled in size around 5:00 p.m. to 100 acres.
DNR ordered aircrews to help with the fire due to the difficult terrain.
