COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho-- Authorities are on the hunt for someone who stole more than $2,000 worth of softball bats from the North Idaho College softball team.  Now the softball team is planning a fundraiser to replace what thieves stole.

School leaders said someone broke into an equipment room and stole the game day bats in early October. They cost more than $300 a piece.

Police said someone broke into a storage locker at Memorial field and stole seven bats.

The equipment was bought with money the team raised.

The team still has bats to practice with but players and coaches are left wondering why someone would take them in the first place.

The coach told KREM 2 News she does not have any guesses who could have taken the bats. The team plans to fundraise to get new ones.
