The landmark Petronas Twin Towers shrouded in haze rise up into the sky in Kuala Lumpur on June 11, 2009. According to local authorities, daily aerial surveillance has begun with the help of the police air units, while seeking the help of commericial airlines, to detect open-burning activities. According to Malaysia's Bernama News Agency, some two million hectares of land has been burnt over the past 10 years creating most of the haze engulfing the country, as well as neighbouring Singapore.
