Roadway projects to impact North Idaho drivers on I-90 until 2018

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – North Idaho drivers will encounter a number of projects in the Coeur d’Alene area this summer.

The projects will repair and replace deficient pavements and upgrade routes and signs. By doing so, they hope to create more efficient traffic flow, better visibility and improved safety.

Most of the work will take place overnight and on weekends when possible to minimize traffic impacts to commuters. Though, drivers should expect lane closures and speed reductions.

Here is the timeline of when and where commuters can expect ongoing construction and delays:

I-90, Northwest Blvd. to Sherman Ave. in Coeur d’Alene

  • Schedule: Mid-May 2017 to late September 2018
  • Project: Roadway reconstruction and resurfacing to full depth on I-90
  • Impact: Lane closures, reduced speed, median crossovers, night and weekend work, expect delays       

U.S. 95, Cougar Creek-Blackwell Slough and Blackwell Slough to I-90 Overpass IC #12

  • Schedule: May to August 2017
  • Project: Roadway resurfacing and rehabilitation from south of Coeur d’Alene at the U.S. 95 crossing of Cougar Creek, north to the southern approach to the U.S. 95 Interchange Bridge over I-90
  • Impact: Nighttime lane closures, reduced speed, night and weekend work, intermittent flagging, expect delays

I-90 Sign Upgrades, Kootenai and Shoshone counties

  • Schedule: July to September 2017
  • Project: Upgrading signs and sign structures along a 66-mile stretch of I-90
  • Impact: Lane closures, reduced speed, intermittent flagging, night and weekend work, expect delays

U.S. 95, Ironwood Intersection Improvements in Coeur d’Alene (City Project)

  • Schedule: Ironwood and Emma April to September 2017; Ironwood and Medina mid-summer to fall 2017
  • Project: Intersection improvements, added turn lanes, and signalization
  • Impact: Lane shifts, lane reduction, reduced speed, night and weekend work, expect delays

Seltice Way Revitalization (City Project)

  • Schedule: April 2017 to mid-summer 2018
  • Location: Seltice Way in Coeur d’Alene from Riverstone Drive to Huetter Road
  • Project: Roadway reconstruction and resurfacing, including roundabouts at Grand Mill Drive and Atlas Road
  • Impact: Lane shifts, reduced lanes, reduced speed, expect delays

I-90, Sherman Ave. to Blue Creek Bay Bridge

  • Schedule: July to September 2017
  • Project: A mill-and-inlay to address pavement damage to the road sustained during the winter
  • Impact: One side of the interstate at a time will be completely, with traffic crossed over to the other side and narrowed to one lane in each direction.

Government Way, Hanley Way to Prairie Ave. (City Project)

  • Schedule: Mid-June to mid-fall 2017
  • Project: Government Way will be completely reconstructed to include two travel lanes in each direction, a center turn lane, two buffered bike lanes, and sidewalks
  • Impact: Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Nighttime lane closures, reduced speed, night and weekend work, intermittent flagging, expect delays
