SPOKANE, Wash. -- A man was killed after being hit by a vehicle near the corner of N. Ash St. and W. Sharp Ave. Thursday night.
Spokane Police said they received reports of the collision around 11:55 p.m. Investigators said the first officers who arrived found an adult man in the roadway with the female driver of the vehicle nearby.
Melvin Hobbs, 50, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to SPD.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner said Hobbs died from blunt impact to the head.
Officers blocked off N. Ash from W. Maxwell to W. Sharp as SPD collision investigators responded to the scene and investigated the incident.
Authorities said the man appeared to have been crossing Ash eastbound on Sharp when he was struck by the vehicle heading south on Ash.
Investigators do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the collision. A witness indicated the man was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, officials said.
No arrests had been made Friday.
