NEAR SYRINGA, Idaho.-- The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office issued new evacuations Wednesday for residents living near fires burning in the Nez Perce Clearwater National Forests.

The sheriff issued a Level 3 evacuation order for the Selway River Corridor, meaning there is an immediate threat to life and/or property and that people should leave the area immediately. Residents living along US Highway 12 for five miles in each direction from Lowell were issued a Level 2 evacuation and should prepare to leave at a moment’s notice.

The Johnson Bar fire was started on August 3rd by lightning about 10 miles southeast of Syringa.  As of Wednesday morning it had charred more than 5,700 acres.

Forest Road #223 was closed from O’Hara Bridge to the confluence of the Selway River and the Clearwater river as of Wednesday morning.
