COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho-- Authorities rescued two people from Lake Coeur d’Alene after their canoe capsized near Ospry Point on Thursday. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Dive Rescue Team pulled the men out of the water around 1:15 p.m.
One man managed to swim to shore. The other two were brought so shore by a patrol boat.
Medics treated the men on the shore for hypothermia according to authorities. The boaters estimated they were in the water for about 30 minutes. Deputies said none of the boaters had life jackets.
Alcohol was a factor in the incident according to authorities.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all boaters that if you venture out this weekend to enjoy the warm spring weather, make sure you have proper life jackets available. The water temperature on Lake Coeur d’ Alene is currently in the mid 40s and hypothermia will begin to set in within a matter of minutes.
