RITZVILLE, Wash.--- A 10-year-old died and two others were injured in a collision late Saturday night outside of Ritzville.

Patrol officers said 38-year-old Nathan D. James was traveling eastbound on I-90 in a 1997 Toyota Avalon with two ten-year-old passengers.  James’ vehicle crashed into the back of a semi-truck that he was following about 13 miles outside of Ritzville.

Washington State Patrol said one of James’ passengers,  10-year-old Gracie E. Snider,  died. She attended Cooper Elementary School in Spokane. The second 10-year-old, Ayla H. James, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center with unknown injuries.  Both were wearing seatbelts according to responding officers.

The Toyota Avalon was totaled and the driver sustained minor injuries, though he was not taken to the hospital according to law enforcement.

The Washington State Patrol said unknown charges were pending and the cause of the crash was under investigation Sunday.
