SPOKANE, Wash. -- Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the highest ranking Republican female in the United States House, said Tuesday that she will vote for presidential candidate Donald Trump despite his recent controversy.
In a statement she said:
"I have said all along that I absolutely disagree with some of Donald Trump's statements - especially the video released on Friday. I will be voting for Mr. Trump because I believe that we must defeat Hillary Clinton who has a record of deliberately misleading the American people. She lacks transparency and accountability. I will continue to promote our Better Way agenda that is defining what it means to be a Republican and is so foundational to demonstrate the choice Americans have in this election.”
On Friday, the Washington Post published snippets of a recorded conversation between Donald Trump and the host of Access Hollywood. The conversation was from back in 2005, and in them, Trump used vulgar language to describe women. The day the video was release McMorris Rodgers also issued a statement.
"I have said before that I would not hesitate to voice my disagreement with Mr. Trump when he says something that I believe should not be part of our political dialogue,” McMorris Rodger said. “It is never appropriate to condone unwanted sexual advances or violence against women. Mr. Trump must realize that it has no place in public or private conversations today or in the past,” she added.
