BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A bill allowing Idahoans seeking a concealed weapons permit to obtain a copy of their background check has cleared a Senate hurdle.

Nampa Republican Rep. Christy Perry said she decided to bring the legislation after one of her constituents who went to pick up his permit was given misleading information from law enforcement after asking for a copy of his background check.

The Senate State Affairs Committee agreed unanimously on Monday to send the measure to the floor.

It's already passed the House.

Perry said the proposal makes it clear that criminal background checks conducted by law enforcement can be provided to people granted a concealed weapons permit.

People undergoing a criminal investigation would still be barred from receiving a copy
