DENVER (AP) — Loveland has rejected a fracking moratorium that would have made it the sixth community to limit or ban hydraulic fracturing.

The two-year moratorium failed by about 1,000 votes, out of about 23,000 ballots cast.

Five other municipalities in Colorado have voted to limit or ban hydraulic fracturing, an action that state oil and gas regulators have said isn't permitted.

The Tuesday vote hit a snag because of voter confusion. Some voters returned ballots in the wrong envelope, prompting an election-day emergency order from the Secretary of State.
