BOISE -- A citizens' committee says Idaho state legislators should get a 2-percent pay raise next year.

The six-member committee made the recommendation Monday, and it will go into effect unless the Legislature officially rejects it.

Committee member Eva Gay Yost told The Spokesman-Review that lawmakers haven't had a raise since 2007, and they rejected the last raise recommendation in 2009. However, the legislator did approve a 2-percent raise for all state employees performing to standards in 2012.

The committee also tightened rules about compensating lawmakers for a second residence near the capitol. The second residence rule became an issue last year when The Associated Press reported that two senators were claiming the compensation without actually setting up second residences near the capitol.
