OAK BROOK, Ill. -- McDonald's unveiled a new mascot and customers are not 'lovin' it'. The fast food company unveiled their newest Happy Meal mascot Monday on Twitter.

McDonald’s leaders said they plan to introduce “Happy” at their restaurants on Friday. Company leaders said they hope Happy “will encourage kids to enjoy fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy and wholesome beverages such as water or juice.”

However, Happy’s unveiling created an online backlash. The Huffington Post, Mashable and Yahoo all referred to Happy as a “terrifying” mascot. Similar comments began circulating on Twitter. Here are a few of the Twitter responses to Happy’s introduction.
