Owner describes slide that destroyed her Portland home

Her house is in shambles at the bottom of a hill.

One month later, the Portland woman who survived a landslide finally talked about her ordeal.

"Everything I own, the pctures of my son, his homework...is still down there," says Kathy Hendrickson, whose home slid 300 feet down to Terwilliger Boulevard four weeks ago.

As the rains returned this week, she relived that frightening day in an interview with Inside Edition, shared exclusively with KGW.

The events of that October day are still vivid.

"I was in bed sleeping, and I woke up to a noise," recalled Hendrickson. "Initially, I thought somebody was in the house."

Neighbor Ann Silverberg made the 9-1-1 call reporting the calamity.

She still gets emotional, thinking about what she saw.

"I had to go out and see a big black hole and to see one of my dearest friends in a hole and i can't reach her," says Silverberg. "It was like she was surfing on top of the debris."

The neighbor who helped save her offered her a ladder to grab onto.

Hendrickson calmly explained how she grabbed the ladder, as her house was sliding away:

“I grabbed it with my fingers and - I've seen (this) on movies - I can't hold on with my fingers, so I did this to hook my arm and I fell down.”

After surviving the home slide, Hendrickson and her neighbors are now living through an insurance nightmare and, for Hendrickson, the realization that she'll never get her house back.

The cause of the slide has still not been determined.
