Portland home slides 100 feet
07:07 AM PDT on Wednesday, October 8, 2008
A home slid about 100 feet off its foundation early Wednesday morning in southwest Portland. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
This night photo from Sky-8 shows the debris field.
The home was believed to be located at 6345 SW Burlingame Place. From KGW's Sky 8 helicopter, it appeared that three other homes had been impacted by the slide. Power to homes in the immediate area also appeared to be knocked out.
The slide happened at about 5:30 Wednesday morning.
A neighbor told KGW he and another man helped rescue the woman who lived at the home. He said she heard noises and was exiting her house when it began to slide and the home fell backwards. He described how he and a neighbor used a ladder to help get her off her fallen home.
A section of Terwilliger Boulevard from Capitol Highway to Chestnut was also closed as a result of the slide.
