BOISE -- Idaho State Police were kept busy this Labor Day responding to two serious crashes on Interstate 84 east of Boise.

The first one occurred just after 1 p.m. on eastbound I-84 at milepost 113 near King Hill.  It involved a female motorcycle rider.  One lane was blocked but has since reopened.

Not much is left of a car that slammed head-on into a semi-truck on Interstate 84. The female driver of the car was killed in the crash.

The woman taken to the hospital via Air St. Luke's. Her name and condition have not been released.

The second crash happened around 1:25 p.m. on westbound I-84 near milepost 71, about one mile west of the Ada/Elmore County line.  That’s near the Boise Stage Stop.

Police say it is a head-on crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.

Police says the female driver of the passenger car entered the exit ramp going the wrong way, slammed head-on into one semi-truck and clipped a second one.  The woman died at the scene. Her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The semi that was hit head-on was headed from Utah to the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, bringing back used fire supplies.

Both lanes of westbound I-84 were blocked and did not open until around 6:30 p.m.

Vehicles were being diverted around the accident scene through the eastbound lanes, with one lane of traffic in each direction.

Traffic was backed up for more than 10 miles during the afternoon as many people headed home on the holiday.

The Idaho Transportation Department assisted with the cleanup of diesel fuel on the highway.
