CORBETT, Ore. -- The upcoming release of the second “Twilight” movie brought MTV to the metro Portland area over the weekend.

Fans flocked to The View Point Inn in Corbett on Sunday for a prearranged MTV taping that highlights the Northwest film locations for popular scenes from the popular vampire movie.

Edward and Bella, the two main characters, attended prom together toward the end of the movie. The prom scenes were shot at The View Point Inn.

View Point Inn management says the movie has helped a new generation of travelers and Portlanders to rediscover the 85-year-old hotel and restaurant, which looks out over the Columbia Gorge from high upon a bluff 22 miles east of Portland on Interstate 84.

The “Twilight” films have been credited with a tourism upsurge in the small logging town of Forks, Wash. on the Olympic Peninsula as well.

A Forks Chamber of Commerce representative said the city’s visitor center used to focus on logging and natural resources histories but now it’s all about vampires and werewolves.

Logging tours in Forks have been cut back from three a week to one and the hottest question tourists asks is whether or not camping is safe with the area’s vampire problems.
