PORTLAND -- A Broadway Cab driver and his passenger escaped uninjured Tuesday evening in downtown Portland after a man assaulted the driver and took off in the cab.
The cabbie told Portland police he was stopped at Southwest Naito Parkway and Morrison Street when a man ran up to the cab and assaulted him.
The cabbie said when he got out to defend himself the man jumped in the cab and drove the wrong way up the Morrison Bridge off ramp, while a passenger in the taxi struggled to get out.
The woman was able to safely jump out of the cab before the thief made his getaway, heading toward Interstate 5 northbound from the Morrison Bridge. The cab was later found in Vancouver, near Southeast Columbia Way and Columbia Shores Boulevard.
The suspect was not located. He was described as a white man in his 30s, about 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, wearing a baseball cap and sleeveless shirt. His arms were tattooed.
Anyone with information on the case was asked to call police at (503) 823-3333.
