SEATTLE – Just days before the Seahawks take the field in their season opening game against the Green Bay Packers, Seahawks Safety Kam Chancellor spent his Friday night helping students in need. Chancellor's foundation Kam Cares donated $5,000 to buy school supplies for 800 kids in need. The Union Gospel Mission helped as well. They handed out the backpacks Friday night in South Seattle.
"There's greatness in every one of you," Chancellor said as he spoke to the crowd. "I challenge you to be great."
Chancellor handed out backpacks for more than an hour as admiring fans waiting patiently to take pictures with the Seahawks star.
"I gotta thank God for this opportunity," Chancellor said in a speech to the crowd. "He blessed me with the opportunity to play football and blessed me to support and give back to the community."
Chancellor said he grew up in a single parent home in Virginia with little money, so he knows what it's like to go through a tough time. That's why he takes his responsibility to help out so seriously. Chancellor said since he has been so blessed he has a duty to give back.
