FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) -- A puppy that was found inside a suitcase in a trash bin in Alaska has been returned to his owners.

It turns out, Scrappy was stolen.

The 4-month-old Labrador-pit bull mix was discovered gagged inside a suitcase in a trash bin in North Pole earlier this month. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that owner Lyndsey Moeller suspects someone she knows took the puppy out of retaliation.

Dennis Preslan found the pup Aug. 12. He uses the trash bin for his janitorial business and thought the suitcase atop the trash looked odd. When he unzipped it, there was the pup.

Scrappy was taken to the animal shelter, where he lived until his owners verified he was their dog and took him home last Friday. Preslan visited with Scrappy on Wednesday.
