GARDEN CITY -- Police say a 25-year-old Eagle man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter after an accident that killed his 21-year-old passenger just before 3 a.m. Friday on State Street.

Idaho State Police say Andrew Cassell was driving a 2004 Kia Optima when he crashed into a power pole and killed his passenger Aldina Ekic near the intersection of Glenwood Street.

While Cassell was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Ekic reportedly died on the scene.

ISP officers are investigating the crash, and say alcohol was a contributing factor. They also say Ekic was not wearing her seat-belt at the time of the crash.

"We had a tragic accident," said Sgt. Sam Ketchum. "Somebody driving down the road, not paying attention, or under the influence, and slams into the power pole. Now, we have a young person that's dead."

Police had closed all lanes on State Street and were rerouting traffic through subdivisions early Friday morning. They have since reopened State Street.
