ARLINGTON, Wash. -- Federal investigators found much more than pets coming and going from the Arlington Doggy Daycare. According to court documents, heroin was being distributed from the business as well.
It was about six a.m. on Tuesday when neighbors on State Route 530 awoke to helicopters flying overhead and a swarm of law enforcement vehicles in and around the Arlington Doggy Daycare.
"The helicopter was circling, probably from my house, through the woods, and back," said Jenny Glasco. "We asked an officer if it was the Doggy Daycare and he said he could neither confirm nor deny."
By Wednesday, federal court documents confirmed what Glasco and others feared.
A 42-year-old man named David Funk, Junior, who is known as "Super Dave" to the people he allegedly sells heroin to, appeared in Federal Court Wednesday afternoon.
He is charged with knowingly and intentionally distributing heroin throughout Arlington.
Court documents say Funk "distributes heroin for the operator of Arlington Doggy Daycare" and that he lives in a mobile home on the daycare's property.
His exact relationship to the business is unclear.
During Tuesday's raid, court documents say DEA agents found heroin, methamphetamine, sizeable amounts of cash, drug paraphernalia, and at least one firearm on the premises. The documents also say Funk admitted to selling heroin and other controlled substances on a daily bases for approximately the past six months.
He allegedly told investigators the drugs were packaged for distribution at the Arlington Doggy Daycare.
"You know, we've had an obvious drug problem in this town lately," said Glasco. "And a lot of us are really upset about it and want it to stop."
She's hopeful this week's raid and arrest are a step in that direction.
Funk is due back in federal court on Friday, February 28th.
KING 5 has learned the federal investigation surrounding drug activity in Arlington is not yet over.
Neighbors say the Arlington Doggy Daycare did take in people's pets while they're out of town. In fact, the business was often praised by customers for the excellent care it provided their dogs.
KING 5 reached out to the business for comment, but our calls have not yet been returned.
