CALDWELL, Idaho -- An overnight fire in Caldwell displaced a family of five and sent a girl to the hospital Monday morning.
The fire started after 2 a.m. on Ormsby Avenue just off of Homedale Road. Flames were shooting out of the windows and front door when firefighters arrived.
The home was badly damaged in the blaze.
Fire crews say all five people in the house were able to escape. One girl told first responders she woke to flames at her feet. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials did not release her age or describe her injuries.
Firefighters were not able to reach the family's dog, and the pet perished in the fire.
The fire's cause remains under investigation.
