It all started with a wish to go outside, shared with EvergreenHealth Hospice Chaplain Curt Huber.
Ed, a patient in an adult home who had lived outdoors as a park ranger, had not been outside for several years due to his health.
Curt and the hospice team connected with the Snohomish County Fire District in Edmonds, who agreed to help grant Ed's wish.
EvergreenHealth wrote that "Ed was delighted" with the visit outdoors.
Curt, several members of Snohomish County Fire, and RN case manager Leigh Gardner joined Ed for a visit to Meadowdale Beach Park in Edmonds.
The group took Ed on the trails in the park, bringing him the scents of the forest by touching plants and holding their hands to his face.
While Ed's visit took place in Mark, Evergreen Hospice Volunteers shared his story on Facebook on June 9. Ed has since passed away.
