THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) -- A woman fatally struck by a train in Wasco County has been identified at Kathryn Robertson, the daughter of Oregon Health & Science University President Dr. Joseph Robertson.

The Dalles Chronicle newspaper reports the 25-year-old was hit late Sunday afternoon at a crossing in the community of Rowena. OHSU spokesman Jim Newman confirmed the fatality Monday.

A Wasco County sheriff's spokesman said Robertson was on foot when she was hit, but declined to provide additional details. Railroad officials are also participating in the investigation.

How the heck does something like that happen.... you can see a train coming from miles there....?

Rowena's tracks are right off of the freeway, maybe she didn't hear it because of freeway and river noise?

This is someones family and loved one. For those who cant leave their sympothies to the family, get a life and leave them alone. My heart goes out to the family for their loss.

My sympathy goes out to the family. I lost a sibling to cancer when we were in our 20's. There are no words that can mend the pain the family must be feeling. Obviously, there are words that can add to the pain. Why do we need to see them here? Time for KGW to establish a policy for "comments on/off." There seems to be no standard for when comments are off -- child related crimes, deaths, etc. What an offense to the family to even allow comments here. There is no justified reason that KGW should be giving the insensitive members of our community the platform to offend in this situation!

Thanks kkatrina. I said the same thing and KGW censored it.

How horrible for this woman and her family. To those questioning why she didn't hear, remember the 2 teens in Washington standing on the tracks that were watching another train pass? They didn't hear the train coming due to the noise of the train in front of them. Not a time to judge--very few details.
