PAYETTE, Idaho -- Authorities in Payette County are looking for a man who went missing in the Snake River on Saturday. Multiple agencies were out on the river in Payette trying to find a man they say went underwater Saturday evening around six.

Payette Police said the man is 28-years-old. Witnesses reported him swimming about 30 feet out into the river, when he went underwater and never came back up.

"Basically that he was swimming with some other people here and they were out about 30 feet and he went under," said Corporal Garry Toth with the Payette Police Department. "And the person he was with tried to grab him but couldn't and that was the last we seen of him."

Police tell KTVB that they will search until they find him Saturday night, or until it gets too dark to keep looking.

The Payette Fire Department, Malheur County Search and Rescue, and Payette County Sheriff's Office were all on scene. They had jet-skis and boats out on the river.

They also notified authorities in Washington county who started searching over there, moving towards Payette.
