TACOMA, Wash. – Three of the four suspects accused of murdering an Edgewood man after he posted an ad on Craigslist pleaded not guilty Monday.
Clabon Berniard, 23; Kiyoshi Higashi, 22; and Joshua Reese, 20, all appeared in Pierce County Superior Court. All are charged with one count of murder for the death of Jim Sanders, two counts of robbery two counts of assault and one count of burglary.
A fourth suspect, 21-year-old Amanda Knight, pleaded not guilty to the charges last week.
Higashi and Reese were brought back to Tacoma last Friday from the San Francisco Bay area, where they were being held after being pulled over in a routine traffic stop. Berniard surrendered to police late last week.
Sanders and his wife had placed an ad on Craigslist to sell a diamond ring. Four people answered the ad at the Sanders' home. One of the Sanders' two teenage sons was pistol whipped. Police say when Jim Sanders tried to intervene and protect his family, he was shot three times and killed.
All four suspects are being held on several million dollars bail.
A memorial service was held over the weekend for Jim Sanders.
