SHERWOOD, Ore. – A child died Saturday morning after having a medical emergency at the Sherwood Family YMCA, authorities said.
Just before noon, emergency crews were called to the YMCA at 23000 Southwest Pacific Highway after reports that a child was not breathing.
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue took the child to the hospital in an ambulance where the child was pronounced dead, said Capt. Ty Hanlon.
"We have no reason to believe there was anything other than medical concerns that initiated the phone call," Hanlon said.
Authorities have not identified the child or the cause of death.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the child and family,” said Bruce Patton, Chief Development Officer & Vice President of the Columbia-Willamette YMCA. “The safety of our participants and members is our top priority.”
The case was turned over to the Department of Human Services. Authorities did not release further details.
