A barn fire Saturday afternoon in Washington County north of Bethany destroyed a restored 1968 Camaro and other vehicles.
The 1968 Camaro was given a value of $50,000 by a fire investigator but the insurance company will decide on a final value, said Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue spokesman Brian Barker.
A boat valued at $40,000 was destroyed along with a 30-foot travel trailer and farm equipment.
The owner had just remodeled the barn, including a new foundation. Barker said the final damage figure could approach $1 million.
Crews were dispatched about 3:43 p.m. When they arrived the 40 by 164 foot barn was engulfed in flames.
"The building was already beginning to collapse in on itself," says TVF&R Battalion Chief Norvin Collins, "At that point we knew that this was a defensive fire and we had to focus on protecting nearby structures."
An outbuilding was starting to char and a fence 50 feet away was melting. Winds pushed embers from the barn fire away from a home about 100 feet from the barn.
Without hydrants, crews fought the blaze using water tenders.
The fire remains under investigation.
