SEATTLE – A man wounded by an armored car guard remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Police say the 40-year-old man was shot Sunday during an attempted robbery at a McDonald's restaurant.
Witnesses saw the suspect jump the guard in the parking lot as he was returning to the armored truck and grab for the money bag.
Sisters Hiywet and Lily Million's Sunday ritual of breakfast at McDonald's took just seconds to turn into a nightmare.
"He just grabbed on him like he wanted that money, he was just crazy," said Lily.
A brief struggle for the cash bag ended when the guard pulled his gun and open fire. Hiywet saw it all from just feet away.
"Like I've seen something out of a movie clip, I've never seen anyone get shot before and his blood was thick … he was shot in the chest and in the arm but it was 3 - 4 shots," she said.
The man lay bleeding in the parking lot.
The same guard who pulled the trigger became the first person trying to save the man who attacked him.
"The guy went to the back of the truck and put the money in there and grabbed like a gray sweater and tried to stop the bleeding," said Hiywet.
Witnesses say the attacker did not have a weapon.
Police say the suspect was shot in the chest, the shoulder and the arm. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
The guard was not injured.
