SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle school district has filed an appeal of a judge's ruling that the Seattle School Board needs to reconsider its math curriculum decision.

King County Superior Court Judge Julie Spector had ruled in February that the board's decision to use the Discovering Math textbooks was arbitrary and capricious.

Seattle Public Schools officials were surprised by the ruling and this week filed an appeal. The district says it went through a thorough review process before adopting the new math curriculum. And school officials say the court disregarded the yearlong effort the district went through before making their choice.

The materials have already been purchased, teachers have been trained and the books are already being used in Seattle high schools.
