TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Former Washington Gov. Booth Gardner has been battling Parkinson's disease since shortly after he left office in 1993.
It's one of the reasons he campaigned for the Death With Dignity Act, which has been in effect for a year now.
Gardner tells The News Tribune of Tacoma he no longer dwells on death. The 73-year-old has got a lot going on in his life. He's headed for the Academy Awards to see if a documentary based on his support of the assisted suicide law wins an Oscar Sunday night.
The 37-minute film, "The Last Campaign of Governor Booth Gardner," is one of five Academy Award nominees in the short documentary category.
