BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — A Bremerton City Council committee voted against allowing residents to raise chickens in the city.
The committee was swayed by people who worried about noise and smell. But chicken supporters say they'll continue to lobby the full council, despite Wednesday's vote.
One resident. Tamara Smith, told the Kitsap Sun it's a civil liberties issue. She says allowing backyard chickens would support healthy eating and sustainable living.
